Features and Benefits The detailed design of the unit is based on JOJI's proven technology. The
unit includes:
-
JOJI sealed deep groove ball bearings for long life and reliable performance
-
Bearing encoder technology for precise monitoring
-
Friction torque device provides feedback to the operator by creating sufficient resistance in the steering wheel
-
Mechanical interface for mounting
-
Shaft for connecting to the steering wheel
This solution reliably meets the needs of steer-by-wire systems in industrial and construction machinery while:
-
No adjustment required
-
No relubrication is required and typically maintenance-free over the expected service life
-
Supplied as a quick-install unit (connects to the steer-by-wire system via a plug)
Sensor technology and electrical specifications
The JOJI steering encoder bearing unit uses sensors to track steering wheel movement. Two sets of sensors are
included for redundancy. Sensors:
-
Magnetic
-
Non-contact and incremental
-
Wear-free
-
Unaffected by external influences
-
Designed to provide maximum service life
The JOJI steering encoder bearing unit is designed to meet the safety requirements of safety-related control systems
and complies with ISO 13849.
The JOJI steering encoder bearing unit provides two independent square wave
signals via open collector circuits (Figure 1). Requirements:
-
A regulated 5 V to 24 V DC power supply is required for operation.
-
A pull-up resistor should be installed between the power supply and the output signal line to limit the output
current to less than 20 mA.
The load resistor between the ground line and the output signal line should have a resistance at least 10 times
greater than the pull-up resistor. This maintains the readability of the output signal.
Bearing Units with Absolute Position Information
JOJI can provide custom steering units for applications requiring a combination of absolute position information,
variable steering feel, and active stop points. Contact SKF for more information.
